Episode Two, Season Ten. Round two, what can I say?
Before the first commercial my jaw had already dropped. My favorite thing about SVU is that it always manages to surprise you even when you've been watching it for years.
Another thing that astonishes me is the acting. Even the extras in SVU are amazing and it's such an emotional topic so this is to be expected and congratulated.
Today a young man who thinks he may turn out to be a pedophile turns himself in before he can do any harm. As courageous as this act is, it's still quite a bit to swallow, for the viewers and for the detectives (Olivia in particular).
First of all, the kid is so young. He's not even an adult yet and he's already battling these feelings inside of him. He has all the telltale signs of a predator but he's fighting it. It offers up the age old question: is it nature or nurture that makes us who and what we are? The boy's life is a bit of a train wreck, but whose teenage years were a walk in the park? It's obvious that he hasn't decided to like little boys, but still, you have to wonder if he could change it, would he?
On the other hand of the episode, we have a guy who has basically set up a website for pedophiles to come and look at little children without touching them. "Look but don't touch." Of course this is unbeknown to the parents of these children but the man running the website doesn't seem all that worried. That is, he doesn't seem all that worried until Elliot gets a glimpse of something he doesn't like on the screen.
Elliot has got to be my favorite characters on SVU. I know, I know, everyone likes Olivia better mainly because she's not afraid to let the water flow. Olivia has more baggage, a heavier background, and what she feels she feels hard. That's true, but when you look at Elliot you can see this smoldering rage stewing underneath. He's the prime example, in my opinion, of what happens when you roll around in the filth for so long: you get dirty.
As can be expected, Elliot snaps. I love him when he's angry, don't you? No one messes with his kids and you can just see him fighting to keep calm and losing the battle.
Unfortunately this episode has a sad ending. I won't give it away completely, but it makes you wonder if doing the right thing is ever really the right thing. It's a graphic episode that can paint quite a picture in your head, thanks to a 911, call but it's worth the watching.
