The reports of the demise of 'Veronica Mars' may be exaggerated. According to E!Online and the Hollywood Reporter, the show has not yet officially received the cancellation blow, but is in talks to undergo a radical departure from the current format.

Producer Rob Thomas is currently working on a trailer for the new season, which would fast-forward a few years to follow Veronica's adventures at the FBI Academy. If the suits at CW like what they see, the show might get a green-light for a fourth season. There remains an outside chance that the network will want the series to continue in the current format and timeline, but it's unlikely. If the "jump ahead two (or so) years" pitch doesn't work, VM will almost certainly be finished.
