With two aptitude tests complete, Lost fans know what’s
going on: they are being specifically outfitted for certain positions within
the Dharma Initiative. With six tests left, things take a drastic turn when
video announcements and a new option is available. A new question unfolds, who
is Black Swan? Friend or Foe?
On September 2, a new video from Hans Van Eeghen is released
on dharmawantsyou.com and afterwards, Test Three, “Dexterity and Attentiveness
Evaluation," is released. In the video, Van Eeghen admits that he is impressed
with everyone’s progress and warns us to avoid contact with a “Black Swan.” If
you pause the video when Black Swan is mentioned, an image of the Swan appears.
Throughout the video, other clues pop up like the numbers 40 and 60 and the
letters B, P and M.
I’m not sure how everyone figured this out but the clues
refer to the cheat to beat Test Three. Apparently BPM 40-60 refers to a
Portuguese/Spanish/Italian word for “slow.” If you type “lento,” the balls slow
down. In Test Three, you use your mouse to move an object and avoid collisions
with the other objects in 100 seconds. A personal word of advice: don’t try
this on your laptop! This time, you are assigned to one of four groups: “Antaeus,”
“Enceladus,” “Tityos,” or “Otus.” All of them are once again Greek references.
They are all also Giants.
September 10 was a special treat to the fans who have been
around since “The Lost Experience.” Another video announcement was added onto
the website. Van Eeghen introduces a new option for us. We can create our own
multiple choice questions and then use them to recruit new members. And if the
Initiative uses the test, you’ll get more mysterious Dharma Points and will be
in the running to become an “Instructor.” Spoiling this great news is a glitch
in the video. It looks like a harmless black and white matrix but its barcode
contains an anagram that translates to “Mittelwerk.”
Thomas Mittelwerk appeared on The Lost Experience as the Big
Bad. He was the President and Chief Technologist of the Hanso Foundation, the
backer of the Dharma Initiative. He faked his doctorate, usurped Alvar Hanso,
and began dirty dealings that involved experimenting with a deadly virus. All
of his experiments begin to deal with unethical ways of continuing Dharma’s
experiments like life extension and ESP. Towards the end of the ARG, Hanso was
saved but Mittelwerk got away. Fans also pointed out that the name is close in
relation to the Others’ front, Mittelos Bioscience.
In any case, Test Four “Tangential Judgment Analysis” was
released. It is another multiple choice question but unlike the previous one,
these are more to do with solving complex problems not reciting facts. Oddly
enough, the last question is fixed, too, asking “What is the answer to this
question?” If you type “Mittelwerk,” the right answer will flash. You are
assigned to one of five groups: “Oceanus,” “Helios,” “Crius,” “Cronus,” or “Atlas.”
All of them are Greek Titans who stormed Mount Olympus.
Halfway through the testing, recruits are treated to extra content
as a mysterious figure continues to aid us. To Be Continued …
