For the first time in Biggest Loser history, Bob & Jillian hand picked their teams.  They researched thousands of applicants, and narrowed it down to eight teams of two.  Jillian’s four teams are parents and children.  Bob’s teams are married couples.

Welcome Everybody!

Ally welcomes everyone to an exciting new season of the Biggest Loser.  She showcased the new 24 Hour Fitness gym. This gym, which is twice as big as the previous, is divided: parents/kids work out on one side, and the couples work out on the other.  Ally also announced that one thing has not changed: everyone will compete as teams.  Weights are combined, and the total percentage of weight loss determines who wins.
It makes you wonder, what will last longer in this game: true love or a family bond? Adam from the green team said it best: “ You don’t get to pick your family members, but you pick your soul mate.”

The Workout

As soon as the starting weights were taken, it was time to hit the gym! Bob and Jillian wasted no time, showing their teams the reality of The Biggest Loser.  Ed, who is one of the youngest contestants, had a difficult time enduring the treadmill. Ed’s wife, Heba encouraged him to continue working out. Jerry, of the yellow team, is the unhealthiest contestant in Biggest Loser history.  Dr. Huizenga informed Jillian that Jerry is only allowed thirty minutes of daily physical activity.  Coleen, Jerry’s daughter, is worried about her father, but also how his health will impact their team.

First Challenge

The first challenge involved great prizes.  The object was to trek more than a mile on uneven terrain. Along the way there were flags that represented prizes. There was also a catch: one flag represented a 2lb. penalty. Jerry and Tom could not compete for medical reasons.  The following teams won prizes:

  • Yellow – Immunity
  • Green – 2 days of luxury
  • Orange - five thousand dollars
  • Gray – extra vote at the first elimination
  • Pink – phone call home
  • Red- visit home for 24 hrs

The only prize that was not awarded was 24 hours of workout time, alone, with your personal trainer.
