After taking a brief break to catch its breath following a mad flurry of acquisitions earlier in the summer and late spring, FUNimation Entertainment has announced yet another acquisition as of September 8, 2008: Kaze No Stigma. It acquired the rights to this 24-episode studio Gonzo series from GDH K.K.
The storyline in this show was adapted from Takahira Yamato's 12-volume (thus far) series of novels about a family clan that is skilled in the use of the magical Fire Arts.
The main character, Kazuma Kannagi, once sought to be the clan's successor to this power, but was defeated by his younger female cousin, Ayano. Because of this failure, he was exiled by his father.
When Kazuma finally returns to the family, he has instead mastered a new power - the control of wind - and uses it to challenge his cousin yet again. This time, as the two of them clash, the city of Tokyo could get caught in the crossfire - or the crosswind!
Jun'ichi Sakata (Cardcaptor Sakura, DNA2) directed the anime series, with Hanamara Nanto doing original character design, and Mayori Sekijima (Angel Sanctuary, MoonPhase) responsible for script supervision.
FUNimation intends to release the series on DVD in the summer of 2009.
