Lindsey, Peyton or Brooke? I spent the summer hoping against hope that it would be anyone but Peyton. Not only is it detrimental to a show’s long term prospects when the lead lovers get together, it is also just plain annoying when it’s these two. The sixth season premiere dashed all my hopes when Peyton was revealed to be the girl Lucas asked to marry him in last season’s finale.
The opening sequence showing Lucas married to all three prospects was an excellent fake out. In fact, I kept thinking the whole episode was one big ‘could have been’ and that things would go back to him sitting in the airport waiting for a woman who never shows up. Instead, there was some disgusting talk of mirrored ceilings and general Peyton/Lucas bliss. But Peyton cannot be happy! Her whole thing is being dark and broody. I cannot imagine her picking out china patterns. That kind of thing is Brooke’s domain.
And it looks like we are in for a little role reversal in the Hill. The first part of the two part premiere ended with Brooke being violently attack in her store. Since she spent the entire episode feuding with her evil mother it is pretty certain who is behind the whole thing. Victoria and Brooke were about to engage in a legal battle over their company ‘Clothes Over Bros.’ With Brooke focused on finding her assailant, Victoria will be free to swoop in and take control. The previews for the next episode show our former high school president with two black eyes and what could be a gun. So Brooke is going to be angry at the world while Peyton basks in the glow of love.
At least things are the same for Haley and Nathan. These two always have some hurdle to overcome. This season it’s Nathan’s back. While shooting around with the Ravens, Nathan is clearly in pain. Too bad because his comeback was going so well. His son Jaime is so sure he will play in the NBA. This confidence will surely drive Nathan to continue pushing himself before he’s ready. Being Nathan, he’ll keep the whole thing secret from his wife and all hell will break loose when she finds out. I’m looking forward to that. I’m also eager for Haley’s new album. Could the teacher soon be back on the road touring? What would that mean for her family? Their storyline has always been about balancing their dreams with their True Love and it is always great to see a couple who really have to work at their marriage.
The other problem that the marrieds in One Tree Hill will face is the ridiculous relationship between Nathan’s mom and his friend Skills. Although 'ridiculous' may not be the right word. Sure there’s a huge age difference but just look at them together! They have chemistry. They have sweaty fun. Maybe they have a chance at something great.
Mouth already has a great relationship with Millicent. The season opener had them leaving town so he can follow his bliss in Omaha. He has completely wrecked his chances at the local TV station and his dream of becoming a sportscaster can only happen outside of Tree Hill. Or so it seems. Millie is such a great addition to the cast and it seems creator Mark Schwahn agrees. Both Lee Norris and Lisa Goldstein (the actors who play Mouth and Millie on One Tree Hill) have been photographed on the set during the filming of Episode 6. Let’s hope that means the couple stays in town. Mouth has always been the one who knows what he wants.It would be interesting to see what happens if he chooses love over his dreams.
It would also be a dream it see crazy ‘Nanny Carrie’ torture Dan Scott but not with a hot fork. What was that about? He dumped his pregnant girlfriend, refused to acknowledge Lucas as his son and killed his own brother. He is the villain I love to hate. So it was pretty lame when Carrie took that heated up fork and made him hold it. I don’t expect any eye gouging on the CW (although it would have been a crowd-pleaser) but at least stab him in the leg. At least he didn’t get that new heart.
As the season starts, I’m now hoping this whole Peyton/Lucas thing takes a backseat to some of the other, more interesting storylines. My fingers are crossed!
