Game news, game reviews, when one man can. When I first heard about Too Human, it was one of the games I followed in anticipation. A story with Norse mythology tied into a futuristic setting, and the start of a trilogy. The game had some problems getting out onto the market, but in the end the game was released. I wanted to like Too Human, I really did, however there are some issues that can't go unnoticed when playing.

Sadly, the story is somewhat uninteresting and easily anticipated. I would have thought following a cybernetically enhanced human, who is revered close to a God by the humans below him, would be entertaining to follow. That is not the case, however, as we're dragged along with poor delivery and villains who are, unintended I'm sure, laughable. Now I'm not saying that it's unbearable, just easy to dismiss. If you play the game with a buddy in an online only co-op, or in some cases a random person A, then the cut scenes do not play. To some people, that's completely fine.
The gameplay is a tossup with most people. First there are five classes of character. Only one of those can heal. So if you're not that class, you're waiting around for a health orb. Some like the right thumb stick oriented combat, where you hold the stick in the direction of an enemy, and Baldur attacks in that direction. I would've liked it as well, if I wasn't getting attacked by ten mobs at a time from all sides and having to focus on one side at a time. You can launch the enemies into the air and juggle them with your gun (pistol, rifle, or cannon), or jump and airslide to them to beat on them in the air. All this is fine, but in my opinion it would've sufficed to at least put in an alternative control system for those of us who like button mashing the X or Y button. The camera system does its job well enough, but sometimes you have to make it work with you and it doesn't like that. The menu interface is simple enough, no complaints there. The equipment screen has the usual, but a couple extras in it. During the game, some enemies or chests will drop blueprints of weapons or armor. You can forge these blueprints provided you have enough bounty (money), and there you have a new (in most cases better), piece of equipment. No materials needed, or going back to the hub to forge it. Your equipment can wear down, indicated by that piece of armor glowing red, and the only way to repair it is going back to the hub.
The graphics are nice for the 360, and the level design is nice to look at for a while, but tends to start blending together. The weapons and armor are a little on the bland side, but they do look nice at times.
In the end, Too Human is average. Not a bargain bin a month after release title, or the next big hit. For people who like the dungeon crawler type games, while gathering loot, it is suitable. If you have a friend to play with online, even better. Hopefully they'll take the feedback from this game, and bring Too Human 2 up to where it should be, and where this game could've been. A word to the wise however, if you don't like dieing in certain parts over and over, this game will annoy you. While some sections are designed with a good balance in mind, there are some just overall cheap "what the hell were they thinking" sections.
Sound: Music that leads you along, wanting to fight more. A nice mix for each level.
Gameplay: Good premise, bad execution.
Graphics: Nice looking levels, even if some blend.
Replay: As with any dungeon crawler/loot gathering game, replayability is a given. Going through the game again to get better equipment, more levels, trying out a different class, or just running thru with a friend for fun, the game can be played for some time.
Overall: 7/10
