A mysterious writer who enjoys gaming, reading, and dabbling in the unknown. Scantly clad women, super powers, the call of destiny, and of course Star Wars, all rolled into one epic video game...and oh yeah, scantly clad women.
Soul Calibur is a renowned fighting game. It has always been a chance for players to master abilities, kick butt, and look awesome doing it. The fourth extension of the original does not let us down.
In addition to bringing back the characters we all love, Soul Calibur IV allows the players to customize who they want to fight as. No more fighting with your siblings over who is playing with whose character, no instead you can borrow one of the existing fighting styles and make your guy or gal look anyway you want to.
The story arcs of each character are wonderful continuations of what many believe to be the cornerstone of the game. It’s not just that these individuals kick butt, no, they each has a reason behind why they fight, be they good or evil, stable or insane (which is often the case).
But don’t let the original concept of the game fool you. There is a lot more to do in this game than beat up your friends and siblings. There are also a number of solo options. In addition to the story and arcade option there is the Tower which is nothing to sneeze at. Leveling up your character, purchasing armor and weaponry, and never ending practice will all be necessary if you wish to conquer the game completely.
Depending on which version you purchase (Xbox or Playstation) you also receive the much talked about Star Wars character. Be you Yoda or Darth Vader you lend your abilities to the Soul Caliber IV archive.
Soul Calibur IV is filled with lots of little surprises, including the introduction of the Apprentice, which I’m sure more Star Wars fans have already heard about. There are also a lot of unexpected twists to the stories of our favorite fighters and coupled with the secrets that must be purchased and unlocked I feel like this is a game I could still be playing after a hundred hours.
I give this game an 8/10, and recommend it for anyone with the time and patience to work on learning a character or two without breaking anything.
