A long-anticipated project between Seth McFarlane (creator of
Family Guy)
and Google is set to roll next month. Rather than sell downloads (a la
iTunes) or put video on a static Web site for download (a la
Dr.
Horrible), Google will push the project, "Seth MacFarlane’s Cavalcade
of Cartoon Comedy" out to thousands of predetermined web sites with Adsense already
on them.
Web site owners will not need to do anything except be selected and
presumably have ad blocks on their site in the right size. Google will
automatically serve the video to adsense blocks, the same way they
deliver video ads and movie trailers now to chosen sites.
The cartoons will feature preroll ads ("watch the advertisement before
you watch the 'toon") before the cartoon clips play. One intriguing
note is that Burger King has made a deal for ads that McFarlane
actually created. You know that creepy Burger King, umm, King? He's
even creepier when drawn by McFarlane.
I'm looking forward to seeing these -- I suspect they'll be quite
successful as they'll be advertisements people will actually want to
look at.
