P.T. Barnum once noted: “The public appears disposed to be amused even when they are conscious of being deceived."

This may be the case with claims of a Bigfoot found in northern Georgia by Matt Whitton and Rick Dyer.  The duo, along with Tom Biscardi, promised to reveal proof of their find at a press conference in Palo Alto on Friday, August 15.  And while the world turned away from Olympic Swimming long enough to watch, it wasn't with the question: Is it real?  But more to wonder: How far are they willing to take this?

Few people thought that the find could be real.  The press conference offered little in the way of proof.  Whitton and Dyer said that they would not produce a body. Instead, they provided only DNA samples and photos of the creature.

To the mainstream press this was not definitive proof.

Within hours of the conference, reporters for The Atlanta Journal Constitution and Cox News Service stated that the results for the three preliminary DNA tests included one inconclusive report, one that showed traces of opossum DNA and one that showed human DNA.

Biscardi speculated that the opossum came from something that the creature ate before it passed away.

As for the body -- the one the pair said that they found in an undisclosed location in the remote northern Georgia woods?  The body that they were keeping under armed guard?  That body?

Whitton and Dyer no longer know where it is.  They say that they have given it over into the care of the man they called in to verify that it was not a fake: Biscardi.  Biscardi is known for claiming to have captured a live Bigfoot in 2005, but never produced definitive proof to back it up.

Soon after the conference ended, a quick Google search revealed what more press conference attendees thought.  Bigfoot press conference fails to impress skeptics.  Bigfoot Press Conference yields squat. Bigfoot Press Conference was just a tease.

But hey!  In the grand tradition of P.T. Barnum, if you're interested in checking out some of Biscardi's Bigfoot related merchandise including a documentary and book, it's all available through his website.
