August to Pen Flick
John August is the latest writer attached to New Line's adaptation of the Captain Marvel mythos from DC Comics, reports Variety. Peter Segal and Michael Ewing are going to produce. Segal is attached to direct. Chris Godsick and Michael Uslan are executive producing.

The story of Captain Marvel is a touch convoluted, mired in copyright issues over the name of the hero. Cap himself, otherwise known as the "Big Red Cheese," is the superpowered alter-ego of orphaned teen Billy Batson. Billy has been joined by a large (and strange) group collectively known as "the Marvel family," the most significant of whom are Billy's sister Mary and Black Adam, currently enjoying popularity in DC's 52. "It's a unique opportunity to do a comic book movie where the character in it actually read comic books," said August. "What's terrific about the character is that he looks like this superstudly superhero but is really a 13-year-old boy. And to approach everything that is great about a superhero movie from a 13-year-old boy's perspective was a unique way in."
