After a long hiatus, the quirky little show set in the qquirky little town has returned with quirk! There's a welcome splash of familiar faces, a bit of residual plottiness left from last season, and brand new complications to start the year. Let's dig in!

But first, a word from our sponsors. Okay, I've been a little amused and a little weirded out by the, well, degree that Degree has been promoting Eureka, and now it's going for full-blown in-show ad placements? This could take some getting used to. If it means we get more "Made in Eureka" spots, I'm okay with it.

Now, back to our show.

Zoe is starting the season with a new activity getting her closer to the central action: she's the new waitress at Café Diem. We can only hope Jack gets great medical insurance because that place blows up a lot. Loved the "It's like Narnia" ref in the walk-in freezer. I say again that the relation ship between Jack and Zoe is the heart of the show, so anything that gets the two of them on-screen together works for me. It may be the S.A.R.A.H. gets left out of the show a little more, which would be sad, but at the same time, there are only so many plots the writers are going to be able to do that involve a sentient house, and they've done most of them.

The plot of the week involves a rogue miniature stealth bomber named Martha. That works.

The comparisons between Martha and Zoe as annoyed teenagers seemed forced, so we'll call that particular plotline a miss, but the entire A plot was worth it just to see Jack wrestle with an invisible airplane. ("You tried to arrest it?" "We tried to detain it. You tried to detain a weaponized attack drone by putting it in jail." "Well when you put it like that … ") Good stuff. Interesting that a combination of things went wrong.

I was hoping Henry's tour in jail would be wrapped up offscreen before the season started, but I'm okay with this playing out as long as we get Henry back. Everyone did creepy things last season and I'm not okay with him being the only one getting punished. In other character bits, Zane and Jo turn out to be cuter than advertised, Fargo continues to grow on me, and I cheered a bit when I thought Larry was dead. I don't like Thorn, but since we're not supposed to like her, that works. She's the new Beverly, only with fewer redeeming qualities, or so it seems.

The Love Triangle continues. Allison struggles with her feelings for her ex-husband while Jack stands stoically by. Etcetera. Personally, I'd be happy if the three of them all shacked up together with the kids and figured out a nice poly situation, but no one listens to me. Someone bring back Allison's dead first husband, cast Keith David in the role, and settle this already, hm?

Next week, there's a monster. Also naked people. Yay!
