Disney announced today at its annual meeting that the company will finally introduce their first Black princess in their upcoming film "The Frog Princess," said Reuters. The film will feature a young girl named Maddy, who lives in the French Quarter of New Orleans.
John Lasseter, chief creative director for Disney and Pixar Animation Studios, calls it "an American fairy tale." No plot details have yet been released. Music will be scored by Disney darling Randy Newman, whose work on "Toy Story" helped turn what might have been a simple 3-D experiment into a CGI cash cow for the Mouse. Now Disney has its sights set on reclaiming traditional hand-drawn animation, and is hoping "The Frog Princess" will lead the way.
