Amazon announced today that videos purchased or rented from Amazon Unbox can be downloaded directly to customers' TiVo boxes. Customers who register their broadband-connected Series2 or Series3 TiVo DVRs by April 30th will get $15 in videos from Amazon Unbox. New content appears directly in the "Now Playing" list for easy access.

This new feature separates Amazon from the rest of the downloading pack.

Most current downloads come to the computer screen, and are thus limited by screen size. Amazon and TiVo allow online-purchased content to come directly to users' television screens, a far more desirable location for viewing, especially for those with high-end entertainment systems. According to Amazon's site, all videos purchased through the sysem will be high quality files at least equivalent to digital recordings made on the Best Quality setting. That's going to be mighty tempting to old-school couch potatoes.
