25000 pounds, or almost $50000: the price the 800 word prequel to the Harry Potter series written by J.K. Rowling fetched at auction today.
According to
Bloomberg, an absentee bidder paid that much for the A5 size (*) story card handwritten by Rowling. There were 100 people at the invitation only event in London.
No word yet on the contents of the prequel, though it concludes: "from the prequel I am not working on -- but that was fun!" Rowling has stated she would not write a full prequel to the series, so tidbits like this may be all that we get!
The auction was run for charities English Pen and Dyslexia Action, by
Waterstone's, a London bookseller. They've said they would make the author cards available to read on their website by tomorrow morning.
(*)A5 format is the size of a half A4 format. Which would be 148mm by 210mm or about 6in by 8in. When are we going metric again? Oh wait....
