Due to fantastic sales on the original movie, 'Serenity' will be released in a special 2-disc set later this year, says show-runner and minor deity Joss Whedon on his website. Among the new features will include new key art, and probably a lot of commentary and "making of" features. Strong sales of the new set coupled with strong sales of the new comic could spell renewed interest in the 'verse by some subset of The Powers That Be. Or, fans could just appeciate the fact that they get more goodies. It's a win-win.
