Tracy is a fairly animated character who reads, writes, but can't draw. This has lead to a life storyboarded in sticky notes, and performed to the soundtrack of 'What's Opera, Doc?'
View all articles by Tracy Garcia"Indiana Jones" swings into the small screen with the help of LEGO and Cartoon Network's Toonami block. Never a stranger to marketing tie-ins, CN promises an action-packed 3D mini-movie, "LEGO Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Brick", to premiere on May 10th. Part one of the four-minute epic is currently available on CartoonNetwork.com, along with a serialized online game and other extras. Perennial boy wonder Shia LaBeouf will earn his keep as host and plug his role in the upcoming "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull".
CN, and in particular Toonami, can do a lot in four minutes. Indy fans who are unfamiliar with LEGO's spoof-like versions of popular series will be in for a giggle. Most likely LucasFilm Ltd. has ordered up a campaign similar to "Star Wars Revenge of the Brick", so expect a barrage of trademarked name-dropping.
In the midst of the marketing hoopla, one can't overlook the video game release of "LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures". Many were skeptical when LEGO took on Star Wars; many were won over by the fun, satisfying gameplay. One can only hope they cater to the same gleeful urge for making and breaking in Indy's plastic brick AU. The game is set for a June 3, 2008 North American release on pretty much every platform.
If you're looking for a fix that lasts longer than four minutes, there's always LEGOland California's new Land of Adventure set in 1920s Egypt, or one of Expedia's ten "Indiana Jones" adventure packages. Giant boulders optional.
