The Spectacular Spider-Man goes for the glory as the
competition increases.
On the heels of the Spider Man 3 movie, I was looking
forward to seeing that this series’ version of Sandman would be after and how
he’d be animated. I wasn’t disappointed, the Sandman’s transformation was just
as good, if not better than, as the Lizard’s. I liked that he wasn’t interested
in neither revenge nor redemption. He just wanted money (who doesn’t with that
recession going on). To add fuel, there was the Freudian slip about the Big
Man.
Good to see a gallery of future villains again. Doctor Otto
Octavius appears to have a timid side. It’s a welcome change from his arrogant
portrayal. It makes more sense to me that his dark side is released after his
fateful accident and the timid personality was just a mask. And it was an
interesting move to have Emily Osborn. To me this definitely foreshadows a
certain goblin appearing soon as I don’t remember what other purpose she served
in the comics….
Correct me if I’m wrong, but the football try outs was
straight out of the comics or was it invented in that movie trilogy? Old age.
Old age. But it made sense that Harry Osborn was athletic (well, more than
Peter before the spider) as it makes his later transformation more believable.
Cool minor character cameos! I think we had Gwen Stacy, Hobbie Brown, Glory
Grant and Stan Carter. Nice to see that Gwen’s feelings are starting to become
more apparent but whom will she go to the social with, Harry or Peter? And,
Hobbie Brown, will he become another misunderstood costumed character? Even
Glory Grant has appeared. It looks like the Daily Bugle staff is getting
thicker by the episode.
If anything, even the Spider-Man haters had to love this
episode. I’m pretty sure he got a couple got a couple good cracks handed to
him. It really implies nicely that at this point, Spider-Man is still a novice
hero, much less a fighter.
If you haven’t started watching this series, there
isn’t much competition, give it a shot.
