View all articles by Melissa WilsonBreaking news, folks. They're at it again. No sooner have Basicgate and OMGWTFtheSUPguysaidWHATgate settled their dust when a sharp-eyed user found this gem in the Terms of Service:
Beginning April 1st, any User found not to be using the Plus account level may be subject to random electric shocks via their keyboards and monitors at the discretion of Livejournal staff. No shock shall exceed the standard pain threshold of an adult male; accounts marked as being owned by users under the age of 18 will have their shocks reduced.
The uproar over this latest announcement is already rocking fandom.
Still others are taking a more conservative approach. "It's SUP's business," said another fan. "They're here to make money, and if electric shocks are effective in getting people to use the ad-supported account levels, it's up to the users to get shocked or leave. Besides, there's always AdBlocker." Regarding plans to double the shocks administered to those users whose systems employ AdBlocker, the fan had no comment.
A Brown Out is scheduled for today to protest the move. Users who are against the new policy are turning their computers off entirely, going outside, and trying to remember what the big, bright yellow ball in the sky is. Firefox News will stay with this story, as we research the big bright thing for our Paranormal section. Stay tuned!
