According to
The Hollywood Reporter, negotations are nearly complete
for
Supernatural co-star Jared Padalecki to star in Michael Bay's remake of the horror
classic
Friday the 13th. Padalecki's character reportedly will be
trying to find out what
happened at Crystal Lake, and the film will show more of Jason Vorhees
than the original movie. Marcus Nispel will direct, with a script by
Damian Shannon and Mark Swift (who penned
Freddy vs. Jason). Michael
Bay, Brad Fuller, and Andrew Form will produce the film, which will
release under the New Line and Paramount logos.
The
Friday the 13th remake is currently slated for a...you guessed it...February 13, 2009 release.
In addition to co-starring as Sam Winchester in The CW's horror series
Supernatural opposite Jensen Ackles' Dean Winchester, Padalecki has
starred in two horror films,
House of Wax and
Cry Wolf. He will portray
artist Thomas Kincake in the upcoming film
Home for Christmas; the
film also stars Peter O'Toole and Marcia Gay Harden, and is set for a
December 2008 release. Fans will also recognize him as Dean Forester
from the WB show
Gilmore Girls.
Horror icon Jason Vorhees has been linked in the news with
Supernatural before.
Earlier in season three there was word from
Eric Kripke -- and then
rumors hinted at and coyly confirmed by the show's
producers -- that
in 3x10, Sam and Dean Winchester might go up against the iconic movie villain, but the episode aired without a hockey mask in sight.
