Tomorrow morning on Kids'WB!, a new hero takes the stage just as another takes a bow. The Spectacular Spider-Man premieres at 10 AM EST, with a second episode immediatly following.  The series tells the tale of young Peter Parker, a sophomore in high school who's had a very interesting summer and is about to be schooled in more ways than one.  The official synopsis from the show:

In "Survival of the Fittest," summer is over for Peter Parker and school's ready to start -- both literally (it's his junior year of high school) and in the real world of crime-fighting -- as Spider-Man faces his first real challenge (The Enforcers) and his first real super-villain (Vulture). Victor Cook directed the script, which was written by Greg Weisman.

Weisman spoke with Firefox News several months ago regarding the series.  "The idea is that Peter's sixteen years old, he got bitten by the spider at the end of his sophomore year of high school, and Uncle Ben died.  That's a big wound to his psyche, and to his life, but that was four months ago so it's still very painful but it's not an open, bleeding wound anymore.  He's spent the summer fighting crime.  But I mean that like, stopping muggers.  There was one bank robbery he was very proud of foiling. There was the liquor store holdup, and that jewelry store, yeah, that was great.  Basically, nothing challenging, not to him.  He's just out of the league of most typical criminals, and he's thinking that's all there is.  He's been away from his school friends because they were all away for the summer, so he's been on his own for the entire summer vacation, having kind of a blast in a lot of ways being Spider-Man.  It's a huge release for him.  We open our series literally the night before the first day of his junior year of high school, and get just a sense of what his summer's been like.  But then morning comes and school's in session in every possible way. ... [W]e introduce in the first episode his very first honest-to-Aunt-May supervillain, and he's going to be fighting supervillains for the first time, and they're going to be teaching him lessons too.  So, when I say "School's in session," I mean "School's in session," and that's really the theme for our series generally is the education of Peter Parker."

Weisman's not the only one excited about the new series, obviously.  Crispin Freeman, veteran voice actor for anime and video games, is also pretty psyched about the show.  Freeman plays Electro, one of the recurring thorns in Spidey's side. "It's a lark to do animated voices for super hero shows because you basically get to be a Greek god.  You're running around with your name on your chest. It's fun, it's inspiring, it's enabling. It's just a trip to be the voice of cartoons that I used to watch."  How does he get to the heart of his character?  "Well, when in doubt, I stick my finger in a socket," Freeman said, laughing.  "What's different about the voice of Electro is that I try to incorporate the psychological effect of his electrical powers on his sanity.  It never occurred to me before how that would have an effect on his character – to be dealing with that curse and blessing. And when you think about it, that’s also Peter Parker's core issue."

While Spidey is saying hello, The Batman is saying goodbye.  The one-hour series finale of the latest toon incarnation of the Bat airs right after Spider-Man, and promises to be big.  From the official description:

When the most powerful members of the Justice League are abducted one-by-one, Batman, Robin and Green Arrow discover the mystery surrounding their disappearance – The Joining has returned with some earthly villainous assistance, and has transferred the Justice League powers into alien androids. It's up to Batman, Robin and Green Arrow to help their JL friends regain their powers and prevent an alien invasion. The one-hour special TV movie event includes appearances by Superman, Green Lantern, Hawkman, Flash, Martian Manhunter, Toyman, Mirror Master, Dr. Hugo Strange and The Joining. The film is written by Stan Berkowitz and Alexx Van Dyne, and directed by John Fang and Vinton Heuck.
