Viz Media has just released its annual art edition of SHOJO BEAT Magazine.  This special issue’s Beat Girl, the magazine’s spokesperson, is done by noted Canadian comic book artist Bryan Lee O’Malley.  In this issue O’Malley, creator of Scott Pilgrim series, gives an interview that gives insight into his career and influences.  He also provides a step-by-step breakdown of his drawing process and has done a four panel comic.

Besides O’Malley this issue of SHOJO BEAT has many things to offer in its 330+ pages.

There are articles on comics-friendly universities and video game design schools.  The Art of Video Games section offers insights in video game design as well.  Readers can meet SHOJO BEAT mascot Moko’s new friend, take a manga quiz, and enter a contest to win manga art supplies.  There is also an article on Hinamatsuri, the Japanese Doll Festival or Girl’s Day, which is held on March 3 the third day of the third month.  The issue also includes a tutorial on how to make plushy Hina Dolls.  Finally, there are new chapters on ongoing manga series ABSOLUTE BOYFRIEND, CRIMSON HERO, VAMPIRE KNIGHT, HONEY & CLOVER, HARUKA and SAND CHRONICLES.
