The official hammer has come down on the JLA movie, according to Variety. The studio confirmed Wednesday that the project is on indefinite hold. Warners would like to resume work on the film come late summer or fall, but told the cast their options would not currently be exercised, leaving them open to taking other roles in the interim. The WGA strike, which includes scriptwriters Kieran and Michele Mulroney, means there won't be additional tweaks made to the script, and between that and tax issues with Australia, the film simply is not going to be made right now.
The story also confirmed the presence of Adam Brody as (one) Flash, Armie Hammer Jr.
as Batman, and Megan Gale as Wonder Woman. Whether those actors will be available when the studio looks at the project again is anyone's guess. The cast members already in Australia for the shoot apparently get to go home now.
In related news, "Man of Steel" is also flying in a holding pattern. The studio has already moved the release date from 2009 to 2010. There is no script. While Bryan Singer is officially attached, according to the William Morris Agency, nothing is happening according to Warner insiders, and the strike is making things continue to not happen.
It's a hard time for the Spandex crowd.
