Lucy Lawless has just been cast in ABC's drama pilot Football Wives, according to the Hollywood reporter. Lawless plays a "sexy but unsophisticated" wife of a pro football player; the actor portraying her husband has not yet been cast.

Lawless is well-known around genre circles. She first came to interest in a guest role on Hercules: the Legendary Journeys which became her screen test for the extremely successful sister production Xena: Warrior Princess, where Lawless, as the title character, became an inspiration to female fans everywhere. She has just finished up a long guest stint on Battlestar Galactica as D'Anna, a Cylon even more religiously zealous than normal. She was also in the short-lived Tarzan series a few years ago, playing Tarzan's aunt opposite his scheming uncle played by Mitch Pileggi.
