The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has announced the Golden Globe Awards are the latest victim of the strike. Instead of the traditional awards-show format (expensive clothes, long speeches, musical numbers and skits that are best viewed drunk, etc.) there will be an hour-long "press conference," in which the winners will be announced.  The move comes in response to threats by the WGA to picket the show, and the announcement by many members of the Screen Actors' Guild of their intention not to cross the picket line.

Jorge Camara, president of the HFPA, said, "We are all very disappointed that our traditional awards ceremony will not take place this year and that millions of viewers worldwide will be deprived of seeing many of their favorite stars celebrating 2007's outstanding achievements in motion pictures and television.  We take some comfort, however, in knowing that this year's Golden Globe Award recipients will be announced on the date originally scheduled."

In other strike-related news, the WGA has announced that they've come to an agreement with United Artists, which will allow union members to work for the studio.  While details of the deal have not been announced, they are said to include compensation for distribution via "new media" (you're reading this on it) which is one of the primary factors in the WGA strike.
